Stunning medals such as this were given as awards at horse shows in the early 1900's. Gilded bronze, silver-plated bronze and solid bronze medals given as first, second and third place were treasured keepsakes far outliving the rosettes awarded today. This 2 1/8" silver-plated bronze medal features a lovely Belgian draft horse in profile. Examples such as this have become increasingly rare. The medal is bezel wrapped in sterling silver and suspended from a necklace of hand-knotted freshwater pearls that are 19" in length with a loop and pearl closure.
