This 1 5/8" piece is made with is a signed 'Jacques Cartier' Medal and was produced in the early 1920's. The Cartier Jewelry company was founded in Paris, France, in 1847 by Louis-François Cartier. Louis eventually handed over the company to his son Alfred in 1874. But it was Alfreds three sons (one of which was Jacques) who were responsible for establishing the brand name worldwide and therefore becoming the worlds most famous jewelry company. This rare medal is prong set in sterling silver and suspended from a 21" necklace of hand-knotted copper freshwater pearls.
